Communities.  They matter.

In 2007, the City of Linden suffered a massive loss of its historic Union Block structure due to a fire. Thankfully no one was injured during the fire and we were thankful to have twenty-five fire departments on hand to support our department. It took over two days to fully extinguish the fire while preventing its spread to other structures.

As the Mayor during this trying time for our community, what struck me the most was the community support for the numerous firefighters that helped our community.  How our community rallied around to support each other, the students who lost their apartment and belongings, and the business owners who lost their property. But our community never gave up. It was challenging working through the recession, the bankruptcy of General Motors and Chrysler. But we survived. A new development has been approved by the City and should be underway in 2018.

The City of Linden, like many communities across our state, have suffered the challenges of reduced revenue sharing from the State, decreased road funding, cuts to schools and universities, etc. We need to change the narrative and invest in our communities, in our schools, in our students, if Michigan is going to be competitive on a global stage.

I will be part of the change that is needed in Lansing. But I need you to Get Active in this campaign to make that a reality.

Make a financial contribution. Host a gathering in your home with family, friends and neighbors. Put a yard sign or two in your front yard. Walk door-to-door with me in your precinct. Make phone calls to local voters. There are lots of ways to get involved, and your support will make a difference not only in this campaign, but in the future of our region. Together, we will make our community stronger.
